Last post I wrote about World Fair Trade day and People Tree, a Fair Trade fashion company from England. While we are at Fair Trade, I would like to write about another social enterprise “One Mango Tree” http://www.onemangotree.com . I was touched by their story and therefore would like to share it with you.

One Mango Tree was founded by Halle Butvin in 2007 but the idea came to her during her first trip to Uganda in 2006. Seeing the devastations created by the armed conflict, she was motivated to develop a business model that would emphasize a combination of market connection, job creation and development assistance. The idea became a reality after she met a woman name Lucy Auma in Gulu’s central market in 2007. Lucy is a tailor who create colorful dresses and purses from Congolese wax-printed fabric. She also trains apprentice tailors with a goal of providing an income-producing skill to them; women like herself who have been economically and emotionally affected by the war.

It is great to see the social impact that the project is creating. So if you are interested, please check their website out. The story is indeed inspirational from a young woman who chose to act and reach out to the people who need it.
